Richmond, VA MM – 2013

Richmond Friends Meeting endorses and agrees to support efforts by the American Friends Service Committee (AFSC) to promote boycott, divestment, and sanctions action against the Israeli occupation of Palestinian land.

Boycott, divestment, and sanctions action (BDS) should be particularly aimed at U.S. companies that provide weapons of war and destruction to the state of Israel and its armed forces. The violent incursion of Israel into Palestinian land, the construction of a massive wall to limit and control the freedom of Palestinians, and various financial and economic restrictions placed upon the people of Palestine, all are illegal under international law. Together, they constitute an extreme form of apartheid that is contrary to our testimonies of Peace, Equality, Community, and Justice.

Various products, such as cosmetics, olive oil, and hummus, manufactured in illegal Israeli settlements should also be subject to boycott. With support from the Israeli military, settlers seize land and natural resources from Palestinians, forbidding them access to their farms, pastures, and water so settlements can engage in international trade.
